If you haven't yet heard, the great Hunter S. Thompson has died.

Made famous by his 'Gonzo' style of Journalism, he has provided some of the greatest works of literature in the 20th Century, if not ever.

His political pennings have got him into trouble with a number of individuals and groups over the years including President's of the US, and yet, he carried on unabashed and provided some of the most daring and intuitive accounts of the American way of life and the intricacies of everything from politics to the American dream.

It is a sad day, made even sadder by the fact that Thompson committed suicide. A tragic end to an eventful (to say the least) life.

Just thought I would post a note about 'the Campo', onto the Stoked blog!

Basically, they're awesome. O.K. perhaps too much of a 'big up' considering bands such as Radiohead and The Cure are awesome, but as yet, have not found their way to be mentioned on this blog, BUT... there is a good reason for this outspoken outburst of affection.

They are genuinely good. Genuinely. I'm not kidding, I mean really good. For those megalithic Metal monsters out there (McNulty you know who you are), then sweet, harmonised lullabies perhaps won't be your thing {insert "won't be your cup of tea" parody here}, however if you sit down and listen to their songs for more than one or two minutes (as long as a lot of their songs), then you will start to notice something strange happening. Your foot starts tapping, you can't help whistling along and suddenly you get an irresistable urge for a cup of tea. I'll tell you what this is. This is being down to earth. Period.

Whether you dig it, are down with it, or just plain love to love music then this is a band you should be listening too. Take a look at www.ivancampo.net and browse the music section where you will find a generous amount of downloadable MP3's of the bands songs and also a music video for their song 'Bandit'.

The band has a simplicity and pureness which demads your attention. With soothing acoustic melodies and bluesy swing sounds, the band has an obviously wide love of a variety of music genres, which is echoed in their performances. They have recently played at the Railway Pub and the Adelphi Pub in Preston and are due to play Manchester Piccadily club in March (More Details to Follow).

It'll be worth reading the following reviews as well, just so you know I'm not being biased! As if I would??!?!

Long time no see on this here Blog site!

Apologies for not posting much up recently but I have been SOOOOO busy!
I have moved into a new house in Preston which is sweet, and I have been partying up mountains in France!

The UCLAN Snowboard Team made their yearly adventure to the French Alps in January of this glorious new year of our Lord, 2005! Oh and what an adventure! From nearly reversing off the edge of a mountain road (cheers for that Mr Bus Driver Man), to nearly being blown up by an Avalanche Bomb, this year was an exceptional mixture of exhilerating life changing experiences and nail-biting near-death fun!

I think I can say that everyone had a cool time, and me and Andy were the first down from the torchlight descent which basically means we rule! Nuff said!

A big WORD UP! to Andy if you ever read this! Good Day sir and I hope your still enjoying your season! If your near Chamonix in March come and visit, it'll be a larf!

And just for sentimental reasons I'll post a photo of the 'Family', Troup, Andy (Fernand), James (Lost Boy, Surprised, Smeagol, Rebound), Beaker, Matt (Mav) and Andy (Rep)!

Music has lost one of it's greatest ambassadors. The legendary Mr John Peel has died.

It's sad to think that I won't be able to listen to him introduce me to new bands anymore, and reminding me of the music that came before I was born, but which influenced all the music that I listen too today!

All I can say is cheers John. Thanks for helping me develop an appreciation of all kinds of music.

The 'Band'

O.K.

So we haven't heard much from the band lately, but we are still working on material and it seems to be taking most of our time to get everyone motivated!!!

But progress is at hand. Jim is just about ready to record his song and with the addition of the bands new 'Electronic' Drum kit... "Electronic you say, like a toaster?", well not quite like a toaster, but it does run off the mains! Which means, we also have an easily recordable drum kit as well!! No more setting up drum mic's! Also with John on bass and andy also on guitar we are ready to record the first tracks of the first album!!

Also coming soon will be some band photos! Hopefully! If the camera works!

Right, Will keep you posted on our progress and there may even be an MP3 download available soon!

So it's the end of the Presidential race and the American people have elected the monkey back into office!

I try not to get political with my postings but as this outcome affects me as well as the American people, then I feel I have a right to say what troubles me! And thats exactly what I am going to do!

How could you let him in AGAIN!!?!?

You may ask how the election of Bush as President has any bearing on my life considering I live over the pond from G. Dubyah?... Well thats because the decisions he makes affects me as well. Going to war and asking for British help, instigating a feeling of fear and dread among the people of the US (and the world) and more importantly thinking that he has ANY right to say what I can and can't do!

For a start, this post is likely to be scanned and recorded by one of a number of monitoring systems the American government uses to track suspected terrorists and basically anyone they want to keep an eye on, Echelon, for example (any Feds watching, you know what I mean!)... Oops.. did 'I' say 'Bomb?'

Come on people, have you not learnt yet! He's taken you to war twice, he does deals with the Bin Laden family, his Daddy gave billions of dollars to the same people you know call terrorists!??!? Whats going on??!

It's worth noting that today I found out that troops from our Blackwatch regiment at Camp Dogwood have been killed doing the job that American soldiers were not willing to do! And I don't blame them! With people like Bush in charge, 'I' wouldn't want him to be in charge of me and my fellow men, sent to fight an impossible war!

But he is in charge, and you gave him the keys, passed him the reigns and now he is in charge of the wagon for the next 4 years!

I'm not just blaming you. I blame myself as well! Britain has not helped, by backing down to every demand the American Government makes of us! America wants to invade these countries, and we just say "well you are our friends, guess we'll join in as well!"

Know I don't want to get into the reasons for going to war, was it WMD's, was it oil, was it just a bunch of trigger happy soldiers who hadn't had a decent taste of war since 'Nam'??? Does your victory taste as sweet now? All I know is that the monkey you have re-elected couldn't tie his own shoe laces without help. Did you not see him sat in the classroom on the day of September 11th 2001 reading childrens books and not making any attempt to actually 'DO' anything to help save the nation from these US paid terrorists?

Shocked, stunned, your damn right you were, you all suddenly realised you had elected a puppet on a string as President, then what did you do?... you re-elected him?!!!

I can't say whether Kerry would have made a better President, but did you not want to at least try something new? I always thought America was the land of oppurtunity and choice? I just hope you made the right choice!

As with everything, only time will tell! But let me leave you with this thought.. who is the fool? the fool, or the fool who follows the fool?

You all have a choice! I fear that America, the land of the free is soon to become the land of the un-free! Guantanamo Bay, USA Patriot Act, Terrorist Information Awareness (TIA), is any of this getting through? I hope so!!!

Hey Guys and Gals,

Hope you all enjoyed the summer holidays!

Unfortunately I have been thrown out of my house down the lovely Waltons Parade, so I won't be about as much as usual! However I'm still gonna be getting groovy with you peeps on the Wednesday night social/piss-up/stagger-home-and-be-sick-in-a-bucket/styleeee!

We need to get stuff ready for next Wednesday as well coz it's the clubs and societies day and we can get loads of new members to join! Bring down boards, DVD's, posters etc.

Geez, two posts in one day! Is that a record?

Take a look at any rammy, crappy website and sooner or later you'll click on a link or be redirected to a page that doesen't exist. And what help are you given... "Error 404 - This page cannot be found". (Full Stop)

Well thats not particuarly helpful, so since I'm such a nice guy I have decided to produce a more helpful error message for when you can't find something on my website.

I hope you like it, it's very informative.

Hi All,

Sorry I haven't posted much up recently but I have been extremely busy.

I'm currently trying to film a skate/snowboard film, write 2 screenplays, write a song, record a song, and most time consuming... work!

Yes I have become what I feared most... I have become a capitalist whore.. oh well!

No. I have to agree the majority of capitalist ideas (basically making the poor,poorer and the rich, richer) is totally wrong, but I need to work in order to pay for the cool things that I actually want to do. And it's not all that bad.

I have a pretty cool job working as a technician at University, and it gives me plenty of oppurtunity to be able to do things. Take my films for example, where else would I be able to borrow a £3000 DV camera??? Thanks to the media department, thats all sorted.

And you get to meet some cool people. Take for example Trevor Bayliss, the Inventor of the wind-up radio & torch. He is deceptively cool. He may be getting a bit older, but he's got a wicked sense of humour. He's so funny in fact he let me take a photo of him so here it is...

So there you have it! Another bizarre post has been accomplished! I'm going to try and get more media (photos/movies) on the site and update it a bit more often.

I hope everyone I know is doing good.

Hello again there folks,

I have met a lot of people in my life, some were idiots, some were just plain stupid but most have been great friends. If there is one thing which I'm gonna miss when I leave for the wintery shores of Canada it's going to be my friends.

Sure, I'm gonna have the chance to meet a lot of new people while I'm there, but I can't imagine not seeing some of my best mates for 6 or 7 months. Iain my man... how am I ever going to cope!?!? Hopefully we'll be able to meet up in Canada/New Zealand/Australia while your on your travels! James... who's going to be my smoking buddy now?!? You better get yourself a job and come over to see me in Whistler! You have to come boarding with me, up to the top, a quick toke and then powder-surfing to 'Where Is My Mind' (Pixies).

Matt, Rob, Chunder, Troup, Highlands, Anna, Chris, Frankie, Alice, Andy, Monsters of Fiction and all of the Southport, Liverpool and Preston crews who are too numerous to mention, I'm gonna miss you all!

But there is something you can do to help me! There is a another sister-site to 'Stoked' which is going to hopefully have details about all the people I know from England and all the new guys and gals I meet in Canada. So how can you help?

I'll tell you where, Sheffield Ski Village, for Gaz's birthday party! Apparently there is going to be beer, a BBQ and boarding ALL day!!! :-)

Make me BIG baby!

Leeds Festival

It's August time soon and the worlds greatest music festival is going to
be here! So this is a call out to all my guys and girls to come along
with us and have a weekend of crazy fun. Mat the 'Mav' Mather has
already agreed to come and hopefully the Atkey and some of the band are
coming.

When is it on, 27th, 28th & 29th of August and the likes of White
Stripes, the Darkness, Hundred Reasons, Funeral for a Friend and of
course GREENDAY are playing!

Tickets are about £105 for the whole weekend, and it's gonna be sweet.

Also as all of us are gonna be headin off in different directions after
this summer, then we should go to this epic festival (and try and get
backstage passes, I have a friend who works for Ticketmaster hehe).

So, yeah, get your ticket and were off, bang, zoom, straight to the
moon!

Canada Here we Come 2004/05

Well the title gives it away.

At the end of the year, December 2nd to be precise, Jamie and his head honcho Stuart will be hiking our away across the atlantic to Whistler (BC), Canada for a 6 month epic adventure snowboarding and attempting to take over the world.

If anyone has been before and can give us some pointers as to cool places to go or what to get upto while we are there then just add a thread to these discussions.

Also if any of the crew (you know who you are) fancies coming to say 'hello' then your all more than welcome.
